  1. The building where the UK legislative
  2. assembly meets. The present Houses of
  3. Parliament in London, designed in Gothic
  4. Revival style by the architects Charles Barry
  5. and A W Pugin, were built 1840-60, the
  6. previous building having burned down 1834. It
  7. incorporates portions of the medieval Palace
  8. of Westminster. The Commons debating chamber
  9. was destroyed by incendiary bombs 1941: the
  10. rebuilt chamber (opened 1950) is the work of
  11. G G Scott and preserves its former character.
